Carlrichard Brühl already presented a supplemented reprint of the Böhmer-Mühlbacher in 1966. He also was one of the most committed founding members of the German Regesta Commission, which was brought into being in 1967. As the first project manager of the Carolingian regesta he considered it his main task to close the gaps (West Franconia, Italy, Burgundy), which had been left behind by Mühlbacher. The preliminary works under his supervision on the regesta of Charles the Bald were intensified when the Commission was affiliated with the Mainz Academy in 1980.

Initially under the direction of Brühl (†1997), Herbert Zielinski began work on a volume with the regesta for Italy, which was completed after the submission of three partial volumes (1991, 1998, 2006). Then he prepared two fascicles with the regesta of Lower Burgundy (2013) and Upper Burgundy (2020). The concluding volume on the Regesta of Burgundy is in preparation.

A first volume with resta of Charles the Bald (840-877), edited by Irmgard Fees, was published in 2007. Together with Yanick Strauch the former project head is currently preparing the second and final third volume.

If the ruler's name Louis II comes to mind, it is seldom that King Louis II of West Franconia (877-879) comes to mind first, who is known primarily by his epithet "the Stammerer". Only as the son and successor of Charles the Bald and as the father of Charles the Simple, Louis II receives a certain amount of attention. Overall, the number of publications, in both French and German medieval studies, is small. The project Magdalena Berkes has been working on since 2020 therefore aims to edit the regesta of his reign in the coming years.

Within the Regesta Imperii the papal regesta have a long tradition, too. This project is about the complete collection of the source material for papal history and its processing in terms of regesta for the entire Orbis Christianus. In the sub-project papal regesta 800 (795)-911 (Leo III until Sergius III) the papal regesta of the Carolingian times are being revised and published in four volumes. The first fascicle of the second volume of the years 844-858 with 420 regesta from documentary, historiographical or tradition by letter has been published in 1999. The second fascicle of the years 858-867 followed in 2012 and the third fascicle of the years 867-872 will be completed in the near future. The third volume on the papal regesta of John VIII (872-882) has been published in 2013. The first volume for the time from 800 (795) until 844 and the fourth volume on the years 882-911 are in preparation.
